What you need to know before you apply

We appreciate your interest in adopting a dog through Furkids and SmallDog Rescue. It’s in everyone’s best interest to ensure that you have all the critical information before starting the adoption process with us.

• It may take 24-48 hours to hear from us. We respond as rapidly as possible. If you haven’t heard from us after 2-3 days please check your spam or bulk mail folder in your e-mail and check your voicemail. E-mail adopt@smalldoghumane.org or call 678-624-1003 if you have not heard from us after 3 days.
• The screening process can take up to one week. Applicants are approved to adopt only when they have completed the screening process, which can include an in-person meeting. Information not provided at the time of application (including vet, landlord, and reference contact info) can delay the process. 
• Adoption fee is $275.00 for dogs, which covers vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping, and necessary medical procedures such as dentals and heartworm treatment. Dogs over 8-years-old have a lowered adoption fee of $125. 
• We may require a co-applicant, some situations (including, but not limited to: senior citizenship (65+), military deployment, major medical considerations and employment that may require overseas transfer may require a co-applicant.
• You must be 21 or older to apply.
• We will ask for identification to verify age and address.
• You must provide the phone number for your current vet AND/OR for any vet you have used in the past five years. We will be contacting your vet/s for a reference. 
• Some dogs may get multiple applications, especially breeds such as Maltese, Shih Tzus, and Yorkies. We consider ourselves match-makers and our goal is to find the best and most proper home for each one of our rescued dogs. If the dog you are interested in is adopted by another family, rest assured there is another dog in need ready to fill the void and we will work with you to find the dog that is right for your family!!
