Become a Volunteer      

All members of SmallDog Rescue family are volunteers. There are many different ways in which our volunteers donate their time, such as fostering dogs, transporting dogs, screening applications, training other volunteers, assisting at adoption events, fundraising, etc.

If you would like to be part a fun group of dog-crazy individuals, consider becoming a volunteer. You will find the experience tremendously rewarding. Click here to view/print our application.

What is required to be a volunteer for SmallDog Rescue?

Most importantly, volunteering for SmallDog Rescue requires a love of dogs and a strong desire to be part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Other requirements include:
  • Volunteers must be at least 12 years old. All volunteers under the age of 18 will work with a parent or other responsible adult, side by side as a team. Both team members must complete the volunteer application document and attend a "Phase One" orientation before being allowed to handle the dogs. The junior volunteer may not attend adoption without the adult team member unless approval has been given by a member of the Board of Directors.
  • Volunteers who wish to foster a dog, or screen adoption applications, or spend time with the dogs in our intake facility must attend Phase One orientation, and attend at least three adoption days to work with a more experienced volunteer. In addition, these volunteer roles require attendance at a "Phase Two" orientation.
  • Volunteers who wish to help with specifc tasks, such as clerical work, specific fundraising opportunities, public relations for community events, etc. must complete the volunteer application and attend at least a Phase one orientation. Specific teaming with another volunteer or specialized training may also be required, in addition to approval by the Board of Directors.
