Calendar Cover Contest

Our calendar contest exceeded our wildest expectations. It brought in over $5,000 and revealed a major competitive streak in some of our wonderful supporters! We really wish they could all be on the cover, but our 2011 Cover Dogs are: Comet, Lucy, Holly, and Zoie B.! Congrats to the winners and be on the lookout for so...me of our runners up submissions in our e-mails and on Facebook. The success of this contest allows us to save future calendar models. Thank you!

Quilt Raffle 2010
Congratulations to Mary W., the winner of the beautiful dog themed quilt on September 4th, 2010.

Clarkston Chiropractic 10th Anniversary Open House

A huge thank you to Clarkston Chiropractic. They had an Open House to celebrate 10 years of service and the funds generated were donated to SDR! Camelot and Sweet Charity were the doggie guests of honor and they had a wonderful time, especially when the refreshments were served!

Art With a Heart Spring Fundraiser

Art With a Heart was a wonderful success! We had so much fun, had a nice crowd, good food, good wine, and cute puppies! Click here to see pictures from the event. Thank you to all who came and to our sponsors!

Thanks USA Entertainment for supporting SmallDog

Thank you, Claudia and Claire Hadley!
Claudia and Claire Hadley had a contest at school to collect items for charities. They made posters and made morning announcements to generate the buzz and got LOTS of items donated from our wish list. Thank you Claudia and Claire Hadley!

Key Club and Track Team Bake Sales
A big thank you to Girls On Track at Northwestern Middle School and Pope High School Key Club. In the month of November, they both held bake sales and combined raised over $300.00 for SmallDog Rescue!

Thank you, Moore Communications!
A special thanks to Ronnie Moore of Moore Communications. She took time out of her busy schedule to train a group of our volunteers on effective e-mail communication. It was educational, enlightening, and will help us reach out more effectively to the community, future adopters and volunteers. Check out Ronnie’s website at www.rmoorecommunications.com

Sweet Surprise from a Lemonade Stand
On Sunday, May 31st, 2009, 10-year-old Pierce Cone paid a visit to SmallDog Rescue volunteers who were gathered at PetsMart in Alpharetta for a typical adoption event. Two days earlier, the Alpharetta fifth-grader and his 8-year-old sister Carly had opened a lemonade stand in their neighborhood. Before the day was done, they had raised $22. Pierce and his dad Martin surprised us with that hard-earned $22, donating it to help our dogs. When asked why he did it, Pierce said, simply, “I love pets!”

Well, Pierce we love YOU! Big SmallDog hugs to you and Carly. Thank you SO much!

Pictured top, Carly, then Pierce.

Thank you, Zoe!
Recently we were contacted by a mom whose daughter had a special request to celebrate her 9th birthday. Zoe didn't ask for a trip to Disney, or even a day at the zoo... Zoe asked for a chance - just a chance - to volunteer with a rescue group. While SmallDog Rescue does encourage family volunteerism, we do not typically invite folks under 15 years of age to volunteer with us. Still, Pat B, a member of our Board of Directors, read Zoe's request, and decided to see if we could help. Surely, Pat knew, we need to encourage this spirit of giving and caring in our next generation. And so, Pat made a special exception for Zoe, and arranged for Zoe and her mother to help at one of our Sunday adoptions.
Imagine our surprise and delight when Zoe told us that in lieu of gifts for herself, she had asked her freinds and family to make a donation to SmallDog Rescue!

SDR Participates in Regions Bank Grand Opening!

Pat Bittinger, Donna Deputy (with Ziti), Nelly Guillermo (with Nicky Nightingale) and Margaret Wall with Margarita)

Regions Bank recently opened a new branch not far from our intake facility, and invited members of the community to help celebrate. They provided free food (all very good) from local restaurants, goodie bags, drawings -- a chance to win a new BMW -- had B98.5 radio station, face painting and games for the kids.

Pat Bittinger shows off her "makeover"!

Nellie and Nicky take in the sights and sounds

The Police department took finger prints of the kids and the fire department was there with one of their ladder trucks, allowing kids to sit in it. Ziti told them he would be willing to paint some spots on himself if the Fire Department would consider him as a "Fire House Mascot". They told him they were holding out for a dalmation. That's when Ziti decided he would rather be a "Police Dog".

Officer Ziti!

Thank you, Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation!!!

L-R: Linda Gill, Pat Bittinger, Hopalong Cassidy, Carrie Williford and Anne Stockton celebrate receipt of a grant from Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation.
The grant will be used to purchase three large T-Kennels for our facility.

The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation is committed to making life more bearable for children, families and pets, in need of a helping paw. With the sale of each full-sized Bearemy's Kennel Pals© friend -- a collection of Build-A-Bear Workshop© plush dogs -- one dollar is donated to domestic pet programs including local animal shelters, stray pet rescue and rehabilitation organizations, and pet education programs around the country. Funds are available to qualified non-profit animal groups in the United States and Canada through a quarterly grant process. Visit BuildaBear.com for more information.

Thanks for the Ride!!

SDR needed a van desperately- we had no way to get our pups to adoption or to the vet unless we could beg, borrow or ... well, you get the idea! Enter, SUTHERLIN MALL OF GEORGIA!

In late July, one of our volunteers reached out to the Sutherlin family, asking for help. They quickly responded that yes, they thought they could help. By Wednesday, Sutherlin had reached out to invite our Board of Directors for coffee, and to give us an opportunity to tell them about SDR, its mission, and how we work. By Friday, August 3rd, we were notified that we had a van!! Imagine our excitement!! And, as an added surprise, Sutherlin offered to paint our van in our "colors", and personalize it for us. Our web design team provided some ideas, and the Sutherlin family loved them too. When our Board members arrived Scott, the General Manager, proceeded to fill out the contract. Our Board members were looking at each other thinking "we didn't expect this today." Long story short -- before they left the lot that day, SDR was the proud owner of a 2006 Ford Econoline Van. What a group of angels we encountered that day!

Our new "Waggin Wagon" with its new "wrap - also donated by Sutherlin Mall of Georgia! Special thanks to designer, Katja L!!

Kathy Bunting and her group in the play room of our intake facility with Board of Directors member Pat Bittinger

Kathy Bunting (one of our volunteers) brings a group of "HomeSchooled " kids to the facility every other Monday. They play with the dogs and, most importantly (in the opinon of our shelter staff, at least!!) they don't hesitate to clean up any accidents. They are just a great bunch of dedicated kids. As a group they "man" the concession stand at their sports events and have chosen SDR to be the recipient of the proceeds which was $250. In addition to this the Georgia Homeschool Foundation has given us $150 donation. These are such a great group of kids and I can't thank them enough for all their help at the facility and the Generous donation. Kathy you should be proud of the Kids - we sure are.

Thank You, Settles Bridge Middle School!

Claudia Crawford, a student at Settles Bridge Middle School, is one of our most committed volunteers. Claudia works hard at each of our Sunday adoption events in Alpharetta, and works tirelessly getting the word out to her community about the work we do.
Each year, Settles Bridge Middle School selects a charity to receive a donation from their fundraiser, and because of Claudia's enthusiasm for SmallDog, we were selected as their charity this year. On May 16 Pat Bittinger and Linda Gill, Board Members, were invited to Settle Bridge to speak to Claudia’s class about SmallDog Rescue, and to receive a donation of $100!! In addition to the donation, Claudia’s class created a booklet which was presented to SmallDog Rescue, thanking us for rescuing dogs and helping to education the public. Click on the "cover" to see the rest of this wonderful book!

Terri Slone, of New Leash on Life, presents a check to the SmallDog Rescue Board of Directors at a recent event while Bumblebee Elbe takes advantage of a break in the evening's events to catch up on his rest. New Leash on Life's grant will be used to purchase kennels for our quarantine room and our recovery room. Thank you, New Leash on Life!
Thank you, Jenna!!

SmallDog Rescue is very proud of the fact that we encourage family and youth participation in the rescue community. But even we were surprised at the generosity of one local young lady.

Jenna, pictured below with Board member Pat Bittinger, recently celebrated her eighth birthday. Instead of presenting them with a list of things she'd like to have, Jenna asked her friends and family to make a donation to SmallDog Rescue and Humane Society, Inc. Jenna presented her "birthday present" to SmallDog Rescue at a recent adoption day at the Petco in Sandy Springs.

SmallDog Rescue thanks Jenna, and applauds her generous rescue spirit!!
