Meet Clay

How long have you been volunteering/working at SDR?
Almost two years.

What is your primary function at SDR?
Evening tech kennel assistant.  Background in nursing.

What do you like most about working at SDR?
Nothing could be better than showing up to a job where everyone’s happy to see you.

Which dog is your favorite?
Who could have a favorite when they’re all so special.  I love them all and could never pick.

What would you like visitors to our website to know most about SDR?
That our dogs, who started down the road of humble beginnings, have crossed many bridges built of love and trust to become the family pets they are today.  Not a dog back is anything short of the next best thing in someones life and they all have so much love to give.

What do you do when you are not at SDR?
During the day I’m a nutritionist and cook for a pre-school academy, weekends I clean and landscape homes as well as volunteer with state adopted children who’ve been removed from bad homes.  In between I spend time outdoors with my own pets who are my real passions in life.

Do you have pets?

I started with exotics young and moved my way down to domestics later in life.  I grew up in a farm life environment and was exposed to a variety of animals all through childhood.  I now have a Black Lab, three rescue tabbies, and six budgies, all of who are very much a part of my life.  Sadie, my Lab, comes to work with me every night and makes sure to do her part helping around the rescue as well.

Name one thing you have, one thing you do, and one thing you like.
  • I have an education.
  • I love to explore outdoors.
  • I like science and animals of course.
